Vision Zero defined
Tens of thousands of men and women-our friends and family, colleagues and neighbors are killed or injured in traffic collisions that could, and should be prevented each year. We know we can do more to prevent this suffering, and we believe that all of us ,whether driving, walking, bicycling, using a wheelchair, or riding transit, have a right to safe mobility.
Vision zero is a strategy to eliminate all traffic fatalities and severe injuries ,while increasing safe, healthy, equitable mobility for all. It aims to achieve a highway system with no fatalities or serious injuries involving road traffic in the Lehigh Township. The goal is safe mobility for all.

Action Plan
The Board of Supervisors, Township Manager, Chief of Police and Community Partners are making commitment to vision zero to set a new standard for safety on our streets and to combat the epidemic of traffic fatalities and injuries on our township streets.
Partners
Lehigh Township
The ultimate message of vision zero is that death and injuries on township streets is not acceptable and that we will no longer deem serious crashes as inevitable. These tragedies that happen in our township affect our families from every sector of life.
Lehigh Township Police Department
The primary mission of the government is to serve and protect the public. Lehigh Township residents deserve and expect safe streets. Between 2016 through 2018, approximately 101 Lehigh Township residents and visitors were involved in a crash and 12 killed. This status quo is unacceptable.
Lehigh Valley Health Network Trauma
LVHN Trauma has the resources at the ready to provide optimal care and reduce the likelihood of death or disability to injured patients. However, the optimal goal when it comes to road traffic accident related injuries, is to support the Vision Zero program rollout to permanently end the problem of having to deal with such life threatening injuries.

It is created to be used as a resource for municipalities and a plan here at LVPC. The plan highlights significant crash types in the Lehigh Valley and compares them to goals set in Pennsylvania's Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP). It also identifies high priority study areas and intersections from an in-house analysis that will be used as candidates for future projects here at the LVPC.
Northampton County Coroner
The office of the Coroner is committed to supporting the vision zero initiative by inquiring into and determining the circumstances, manner and cause of road traffic related fatal accidents and injuries with the aim of establishing permanent solutions to the problem.
Northampton County Highway Safety Program
Northampton County Highway Safety Program conducts education throughout the community on driving safety. The program chairs the Lehigh Township Vision Zero task force and is leading this initiative to create safer streets, safer drivers and safer street designs.
PennDOT
PennDOT is committed to making Pennsylvania's roadways safer for travelers of all modes. While fatalities are trending downward over time, we'll continue to work on engineering, education and enforcement initiatives with our many partners because even one fatality is too many. The target is zero fatalities.
Become part of the solution
There is no magic solution that will end traffic fatalities. Previous successes that have combined the efforts of people, their government and private industries to save lives are not difficult to find.
